The launch of this year’s Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile has kicked off Chichester District’s Olympic year with a bang today (Thursday 19 January 2012).

The city is hosting its second Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 25 March, and needs local people to show their support by entering now on the Sport Relief website or through the Chichester District Council’s website and type in ‘Sport Relief 2012’ in the search box.

“The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is a great reason to dust off your trainers, get active and help change people’s lives,” says Cllr Eileen Lintill, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Wellbeing at Chichester District Council.

“The Chichester Mile sets off from Graylingwell Park in Chichester, and you have a choice of one, three, or six miles. From families taking a stroll to super sprinters up against the clock, there’s something for everyone on the day. In 2010 over 400 people took part, raising money for Comic Relief to help transform lives here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.”

As well as the run, there will be plenty of other activities to take part in on the day at a Community Play Day at Graylingwell Park in Chichester. The event, held as part of Outdoor Play Week which takes place from Saturday 24 March to Sunday 1 April.

At the meeting on the 10th january the Parish Council set the precept for 2012-13 at £29750.This is an increase of 9.3% over this year but only 5.5% over the precept in 2010-11,as we reduced the precept £1000 this year. This increase amounts to £1.60 per elector, per annum.

The Parish Council took this decision reluctantly but with the significant cutbacks at District and County level ,sources of funding for local community projects and initiatives have been removed.

In this financial year the Parish Council ,in addition to the regular grants and donations to local bodies of nearly £6750, has or will spend:-

£2660 on repairs to the bus stop near Oak tree stores

£1500 on the Youth Club in Plaistow( as County withdrew funding)

£750 contribution to the cost of new chairs at Kelsey hall

£1650 contribution to redecoration of Winterton hall

£650 for a new noticeboard at Shillinglee.

At our November meeting we invited representatives of local bodies and organisations to outline the financial support they would like in 2012-13 hence the decision to increase our precept. The Parish Council is committed to supporting local community initiatives which we believe play a valuable role for the Parishioners.Any organisation can make an application for support for funding from the Community Reserve or Village Maintenance Funds.

Chichester District Council is consulting at present on its’ Local Development Framework(LDF) which will set out its’ planning and development policy for the next few years.

To ensure that the Parish Council reflects accurately the views of the parish we are arranging two meetings in late February in Winterton and Kelsey Halls to discuss the plans and seek feedback. In addition we will be circulating a survey to each household with a copy of the Parish Update in March inviting comments on future housing needs and development in the Parish. It will be important that as many Parishioners as possible complete the survey as it will be used to update our Village Design Statement and make submissions on the LDF.

More details will follow in the near future
